The specialty of the island of Murter
TISNO BRIDGE
What makes the island of Murter special is the fact that it is connected to the mainland by a bridge that goes over the 38-meters-wide strait which the name of the settlement derives from (strait = tjesnac). Hence, the mentioned connection and resulting higher accessibility of the transport, served as one of the key factors of the early tourism development on the island.
Temelji mosta postavljeni su već krajem 18. st., no radovi su bili obustavljeni. Most je izgrađen početkom 19. st., a zbog povećanja brodskog prometa, tišnjanski je kanal produbljen te je most 1868. godine zamijenjen novim pokretnim mostom koji je do danas više puta renoviran i rekonstruiran. „Težak je više od 35.000 kg, dug 70, a širok 9 noga”.
Današnji most izgrađen je 1991. godine. U nautičkim kartama navodi se kako je dubina ispod tišnjanskog mosta 2,1 metar, ali ipak dolazi do problema u prometu i kod plovila s gazom većim od 1,5 m, posebice kada dođe do većih oseka.
The bridge used to be operated manually and swing to allow bigger vessels to go through the channel. it lifts for the same reason today, once a day during the majority of the year, and twice a day during summer months (9-9.30 am, 5-5.30 pm).
