CHURCH OF SAINT MARTIN

  • On the site of the former villa and the old Christian church, the church of St. Martin and the cemetery around it.
  • The Church of St. Martin was built east of the early Christian church.
  • Research revealed 11 late antique and 486 medieval graves. The late antique ones were discovered in the narthex of the early Christian church, and the medieval ones on a large part of the former villa. For many graves, the remains of the walls of the villa were used by incorporating them into the architecture of the grave.
  • The medieval cemetery was in operation until the 18th century, and part of the graves had a monolithic stone tombstone, while some had carved symbols of a characteristic repertoire. The number and variety of their relief decorations rank the necropolis in Ivinje among the richest necropolises of its type in Croatia!
