The titular of the church in Ivinja is St. Martin. This saint is extremely popular in France, which worships him as its original patron, but thanks to the Benedictines, the cult of St. Martina spread throughout the European area. The presence of his cult in a country is considered a sign of the presence of Western Christianity, that is European culture.
St. Martin is said to be one of the greatest among bishops, at the same time the first saint who was not a martyr, and he has his own liturgical holiday - November 11. In literature, his mercy and miracle-working powers are highlighted, while in art, scenes related to the military call of St. Martin, which he dealt with before his ordination.
Historically, Tisno was full of fraternities, and some of them still exist today.
To begin with, we bring you the definition of fraternities, the source; Croatian encyclopedia, online edition. Lexicographic Institute Miroslav Krleža, 2021
Brotherhood (fraternities, brotherhoods, fraternities, schools; lat. confraternites, fraternitates, fratiliae, scholae), socio-religious, or class-professional associations of believers. In the Middle Ages, brotherhoods were organized on a class basis, and in recent times their task is to promote special devotions. Although brotherhoods most often gathered individuals of similar or the same social position, they differ from guilds, which are primarily professional associations. The basic task of brotherhoods is to foster piety, charity, and social protection of members (brothers). In addition, they often take care of hospitals, parish churches, etc.
One of them is the Brotherhood of St. Martina, which was mentioned back in 1536. In 1811, the confraternities were abolished by the French administration in Dalmatia, but so each parish was allowed to keep only one confraternity - only the confraternities of the Blessed Sacrament and Souls in Purgatory were spared. After the fall of the French administration in Dalmatia, brotherhoods were restored, and since Tisno had 1,689 inhabitants in 1910, it can be concluded that many were simultaneously members of brotherhoods and pious societies. It is noticeable that the old brotherhoods, dating back to the 16th century, survive even with few members, and that many were restored or re-established after the end of French rule.
Today, one of the "tasks" of the brotherhood of St. Martina is to mark the feast of St. Martin. After the solemn sung evening mass, the brotherhood in the area near the church of St. Martina organizes gatherings with appropriate food and drinks. Everyone is welcome to celebrate their patron saint.
