Home of the legend about the history of Tisnog
In the center of Tisno, on the way to the church of St. Roko, there is a beautiful stone villa, known as the Banchetti house. It got its name after one of the richest families in old Dalmatia that settled in Tisno when Andrija Banchetti came here from Italy in the 18th century and bought a number of properties. His heirs later built a house on those properties, which still exists today. Therefore, it is no wonder that the first Mayor of the Municipality, Toma, was a descendant of Andrija Banchetti. The Banchetti house was and still is beautiful. The ground floor and two upper floors were built of hewn stone, and the windows were protected by a decorative wrought-iron grille shaped into the most beautiful flowers.
The Banchetti family left its mark on the entire island of Murter. To give an example, one of the descendants, Antun, lent money to the people of Jezera to build an altar in the church of Our Lady of Health. The Banchetti also helped Venice, as one legend says, to which they allegedly lent 500,000 gold sequins when the circumstances of the war brought Venice into a financial crisis at the end of the 18th century.
WHERE IS THE MONEY?
This money was later returned, but no one knows where it ended up because one of the Banchettis, Giuseppe,who lent the money to Venice, died without saying where the money was deposited. Who knows, maybe even today it is on the right side on the Uska street that leads from Rudina towards the church of St. Rok.
Anyhow, the Banchetti house still makes Tisno even more beautiful and bears witness to the rich history of the place and wealthy families from Tisno.
