ŠIME VLAŠIĆ
Dr. Šime Vlašić was a prominent lawyer and politician in Dalmatia, and he particularly distinguished himself through his work as the mayor of Šibenik and a member of the Croatian Peasant Party (HSS). Although he is not a widely known figure in general history, Vlašić left his mark on the local political scene in Dalmatia with his work and contribution. Born in 1892 in a poor family in Tisno, he gained a great reputation in judicial circles and Croatian politics.
His legal education and expertise helped him to assert himself in political life, where he represented the ideas of social justice and the rights of the peasants. The Croatian Peasant Party advocated for a better position of the peasantry, farmers and rural population, and Vlašić played a role in implementing these ideas at the local level. His election as mayor of Šibenik in 1925 was a sign of the local community's support for his views and work. Known for his patriotism, modesty and dedication to work, he became the most popular politician in Šibenik.
His commitment to peasants, to whom he often provided free legal aid, was highlighted at the commemoration held by Branko Pavlov. Vlašić's death caused sadness in Zagreb, where a day of mourning was declared, and thousands of people gathered for the funeral. In 1936, a monumentm was built in Tisno in honor of his contribution. After 87 years, the monument was restored thanks to Vihor Kušpilić, his grandson, and returned to the place where it still bears witness to Vlašić's humanism and patriotism. Pavlov emphasized that the monument not only celebrates Vlašić, but also the spirit of the people from which it originated.
